Second Mile president, CEO resigns in Penn State scandal

Centre Daily Times

November 14, 2011 01:25 PM

Jack Raykovitz, president and CEO of The Second Mile has resigned, and David Woodle, vice chairman of the board and CEO of Nanohorizons, a firm based in Bellefonte, will take over the charity’s day-to-day operations.

The announcement breaks the silence that had descended on the organization. Last Monday, two days after The Second Mile founder Jerry Sandusky was charged with sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years, the organization issued a statement. Until today, no representative of The Second Mile had made any further statement or answered any questions, despite repeated attempts to contact Raykovitz and other board members.

Raykovitz, who has served as the charity's CEO for 28 years, issued this statement:

“I have submitted, and the Board has accepted, my resignation as President/CEO of The Second Mile. Providing any statement beyond that sentence takes the focus from where it should be - on the children, young adults and families who have been impacted. Their pain and their healing is the greatest priority, and my thoughts and prayers have been and will continue to be with them.

“I continue to urge anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact investigators from the Office of Attorney General at 814-863-1053 or Pennsylvania State Police at 814-470-2238.
