A July 1 story examining the issue of voter eligibility said that Patrick Rogers, a vocal critic of ousted U.S. Attorney David Iglesias of New Mexico, was a candidate to fill that job after Iglesias was fired late last year. Although Justice Department officials contacted Rogers about the position, he declined interest in it, as he had when he was asked about the same job in 2000. The article also said that two conservative groups, the American Center for Voting Rights and the Republican National Lawyers Association, were "deployed in battleground states to press for restrictive ID laws and oversee balloting." The story should have said that the American Center for Voting Rights pressed for tougher state voter-ID laws and Republican National Lawyers Association members monitored balloting in key states.
