Tropical Storm Hanna turned slowly to the northwest Wednesday and took aim at the Bahamas on a grinding, meandering course that could take it as far north as the Carolinas as a hurricane by late Friday.
But farther out to sea, Hurricane Ike suddenly became a threat to watch as it strengthened into a Category 4 storm with 135 mph winds. The National Hurricane Center's five-day projection for Ike puts South Florida just barely into its potential strike zone.
''It's a system for Southeast Florida to watch,'' Eric Blake, a hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center, said of Ike late Wednesday. ``But it's certainly no time to panic. We have a few more days to watch it.''
