Texas teen accused of stabbing mom, taking her car

GRAPEVINE, Texas — A 15-year-old boy wanted on suspicion of stabbing his mother in the back Tuesday morning was taken into custody near a Bedford church on Texas 121, police said.

The boy who was not identified because he is a juvenile was detained about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of First Assembly of God Church in Bedford, police said.

Bedford police responded to a call of a car behind the church, Bedford police Lt. Kirk Roberts said Tuesday.

“When officers got there, it matched the one that Grapevine police was looking for,” Roberts said. “The teen was inside of the car.”

Officers had been searching for the teen and a car that was stolen from the Grapevine residence where his mother was stabbed earlier in the day, said Lt. Todd Dearing, Grapevine police spokesman.

Authorities said the teen took his mother’s tan 2002 four-door Dodge Intrepid.

Police believe he was armed with a 6-inch kitchen knife that was used in the attack Tuesday morning.

The woman, who police did not identify, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, authorities said.
