OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Family and friends of Keighley Ann Alyea are putting up fliers Monday and were using Facebook to spread the word about her disappearance.
Her parents are walking the Overland Park neighborhood where police found Alyea's unoccupied car Sunday. The family started a Facebook page dedicated to finding the 18-year-old, who has been missing since Tuesday.
“It’s enormous, the amount of response we’re getting from Facebook,” said Ed Frentrop, Alyea’s uncle.
“She’s got friends all over the place,” he said. “They’re doing whatever they can to spread the word and make something happen. … As far as I know, it’s grown by the thousands. The word is getting out through Facebook.”
Alyea’s family is worried sick, Frentrop said. “She would get on the Internet every single day and talk to people on Facebook and talk to people on her phone and text people,” Frentrop said. “She talked to her mom and dad every single day. She talked to my daughter almost every single day through texting and whatnot.
“Then everything stopped.”
About 6 p.m. Sunday, a patrol officer found Alyea’s unoccupied 1993 dark green Mazda 626 parked on the street in the 6200 block of Marty Lane in Overland Park, said Overland Park Police Public Information Officer Jim Weaver. The car has been towed so that authorities could search the vehicle for possible evidence.
There was no indication how long Alyea’s car had been parked there, Weaver said.
Police have canvassed the area talking with neighbors to see if they saw anything.
Police said over the weekend that they wanted to interview a 22-year-old man. They found him Sunday after his car broke down at Interstate 70 and 18th Street Expressway.
Police talked to the man, whose relationship to Alyea was not disclosed, to see whether he had any useful information, but Weaver declined to provide details of the interview.
