In Friday's officer-involved fatal shooting at Carolina Forest High School in Conway, S.C., a 16-year-old reportedly attacked school resource officer Lance Corp. Marcus Rhodes, with two knives.
Authorities said Trevor Varinecz, a high school junior, came to school at 8:20 a.m. Friday and asked to talk to Rhodes. They went into Rhodes' office inside the school's F building, which houses the math and science classrooms, and closed the door.
The two got into an altercation, resulting in Rhodes being stabbed and Varinecz being shot five times, including one fatal shot to the chest.
Friday's fatal shooting was the first incident in which an S.C. school officer has killed a student on campus, officials said.
