Suspect in Tacoma officer killings not found in Seattle house

Brian Evertine and Mike Archbold - The (Tacoma) News Tribune

November 30, 2009 08:26 AM

Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said police have searched the Seattle house and did not locate suspect Maurice Clemmons.

There is a warrant out for his arrest on murder charges in the shootings deaths of four Lakewood police officers in Parkland Sunday morning.

The neighborhood Leschi neighborhood in Seattle is still locked down.

"He is on the run" said Troyer. Or he could be hiding in the bushes nearby he added.

Troyer said they have recovered the handgun at the Parkland shooting scene. Police did not specify what type of gun it was.

Clemmons is now being called a suspect in the shooting deaths of four Lakewood police officers.

Seattle police SWAT officers searched a house and surrounding property in the 3200 block of Yessler Way where they believed Clemmons was holed up. Investigators believe Clemmons was shot in the abdomen during the confrontation with Lakewood police Sunday morning. Police said the wound might be fatal.
