PASCAGOULA — Standing 8 feet tall, flocked white and covered with lights, the Christmas tree positioned at the front door of the Gas-N-Save on Ingalls Avenue served as a holiday greeting to customers. That is, it did until Thursday night when someone stole it.
A stocky young man with short brown hair, a wide-striped T-shirt and jeans pulled a pickup truck to the front door of the gas station at about 11:45 p.m. He left a young woman with a light-brown ponytail in the passenger seat.
He got out on the driver's side with the truck running and her keeping watch out her window. He walked casually by the tree, put his hands in his pockets as he looked around briefly. Then he reached over a cooler and unplugged the Christmas lights and began to wrestle the large tree into the bed of his truck.
It didn’t go easily. But it was stolen in less than five minutes.
