Police: Man rammed store with Lexus, took lottery tickets

Steve Lyttle - Charlotte Observer

December 23, 2009 03:55 PM

Authorities say a man used a Lexus as a battering ram overnight in an attempt to burglarize a convenience store near Mooresville, N.C.

Deputies, who had stepped up efforts to deal with robberies and burglaries of stores in the county, arrested a Lincoln County man in connection with the case.

James Edward Wachob III, 28, of Denver, faces several burglary-related charges.

The burglary was reported about 2:30 a.m. at the Quick Mart, in the 1200 block of River Highway, deputies say. When deputies arrived, they found a 1995 Lexus LS 400 had been backed through the front of the building, and they learned someone had taken money and lottery tickets from the store.

Capt. Darren Campbell of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said deputies had set up a special response plan to deal with robberies and burglaries, and they put that plan into effect immediately. Campbell said officers found a man who had run from the store and was headed for Catawba County.

Two officers questioned and searched the man, Campbell said, and found money and lottery tickets that had been taken from the Quick Mart. Authorities say they arrested Wachob and charged him with breaking and entering, larceny, safe-cracking, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen goods, and resisting, obstructing and delay.
