JUNEAU, Alaska — A woman who embezzled tens of thousands of dollars from the Little League has been sentenced to prison. Arlene Moe was ordered to spend one year behind bars for stealing $50,000 from the Gastineau Channel Little League in Juneau. She is the former treasurer of the group.
State Superior Court Judge Patricia Collins also ordered Moe to perform 500 hours of community service and serve 10 years probation for the felony theft. Moe also will have to pay nearly $51,000 in restitution. She can get off probation early if she pays back the money in less than 10 years.
Moe was arrested for writing herself unauthorized checks from the league's account at least 57 times between August 2007 and September 2008, according to court documents.
President Jeff Duvernay said the group's board of directors is satisfied with the judgment handed down this week.
It was not immediately known how much Moe stole from the Juneau organization but the courts have decided that at least $50,969 had been taken.
"I know that it was more, but I believe that is the amount that we can fairly justify and quantify," Duvernay said.
