Man turns himself in after road-rage shooting of 2-year-old

A man accused of shooting a 2-year-old girl during a road rage incident Jan. 17 himself in to authorities Saturday evening, police said.

"He's in custody," Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. "His family got a hold of him, then contacted detectives. They talked to him on the phone and convinced him to come to the station to turn himself in."

Sauni "Johnny" Misi, 33, now faces three counts of first-degree assault and one count of drive-by shooting.

Police said Misi had evaded officers since he and the father of a toddler girl got involved in an aggressive driving incident one week ago.

According to court records, the father stopped his car at a traffic signal at 84th and McKinley. Misi, who allegedly was driving a black Ford Explorer, pulled up on the passenger side of the family’s car, showed a gun and fired one round, then drove away.

The father later pulled over and discovered his daughter had been shot in the thigh while strapped in her car seat. The bullet was later found in her diaper, court records say. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Several witnesses who had been with Misi at the time later came forward and identified him as the shooting suspect, court papers say.
