A former Boy Scouts of America secretary was sentenced to two years in federal prison for bilking more than $350,000 from the organization, according to a U.S. Attorney's office news release.
U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey also ordered Barbara Ann Nestel of Justin to pay $350,266 in restitution.
Nestel, 56, is scheduled to surrender to officials of the Bureau of Prisons no later than March 29.
Nestel was sentenced Monday in a Dallas federal courtroom. She had plead guilty to one count of wire fraud in October.
According to federal documents, Nestel had worked as a secretary at the national headquarters in Irving, Texas, from April 1985 until May 2008 and part of her duties included reconciling financial accounts and processing payments for the National Catholic Committee on Scouting for merchandise and expenses. As part of her job, Nestel used an electronic terminal to process debit and credit card transactions for customer purchases and refunds.
Nestel swiped her personal debit card through the electronic terminal which submitted a refund request which she was not entitled to at any point, the documents state. The process caused a wire transfer of money from a Boy Scouts of America bank account in Dallas to Nestel's personal bank account, according to the documents.
Nestel admitted to federal officials that she processed at least 500 fraudulent refunds from the Dallas bank account, federal documents state.
