Eddie Wasko, convicted of murdering 10-year-old Staci Weinstein in North Miami Beach nearly three decades ago, won't be released before July 2093, Florida's Parole Commission ruled Wednesday.
The decision marks a victory for Marvin Weinstein, 67, the girl's bereaved father who traveled to Tallahassee to argue Wednesday morning against Wasko's release, even handing commissioners a photo of his daughter's tombstone.
"They're basically saying you have no more hope — you should start rotting," Weinstein said of the commission's decision.
That means Wasko, 51, would be 134 years old before he could get out on parole.
In October 1982, Wasko and John Donald Pierson, two carpet cleaners looking for work in the neighborhood, broke into Weinstein's house and tried raping Staci, who had stayed home sick from school. Prosecutors believed Wasko fatally shot Staci in the head and chest.
The men were arrested nine months later.
