Five days after FIU running back Kendall Berry was stabbed to death on the university's main campus, his teammates returned to the practice field for the first time.
Coach Mario Cristobal Tuesday held a light session in shells that was closed to the public and reporters.
The team will also practice in private Wednesday and Thursday, but as of Tuesday afternoon, no decision had been made on if the Golden Panthers will hold their postponed spring game, originally scheduled for Wednesday.
The Golden Panthers tried to return to a degree of normalcy on the same day that the NCAA volunteered to pay for the funeral and burial expenses, which were too steep for Berry's family to handle on its own.
There is a viewing planned for Friday night in Haines City, and the funeral is tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at New Covenant Baptist Church.
However, given the larger than expected turnout for his on-campus memorial service Monday, which roughly 1,400 people attended, there is talk of holding the funeral at a larger venue. It was not known if there will be a viewing in South Florida before the body is transported, according to FIU.
Additionally, the university has established a scholarship fund in Berry's name. FIU will accept donations on the school's website.
