RALEIGH -- Kathy Taft, the state school board member died last month after a brutal beating, was foaming at the mouth and bleeding in a bed when her sister discovered her, according to a 911 call released today.
Taft had surgery on her neck the day before, according to the woman whose voice is on the 911 call.
It was while Taft was at the hospital that a worker at WakeMed called and reported a possible rape
Search warrants in the brutal beating death of state school board member Kathy Taft unsealed this morning say that police believe Taft was sexually assaulted and also suffered a laceration to the back of her head.
The first caller never mentioned the possibility of a sexual assault to emergency dispatchers.
It was not until the second call that a sexual assault was mentioned.
