Six Centre County men have been convicted in a complex and lengthy game violations case from 2008 that involved spotting and killing five deer illegally during the first two days of hunting season in 2008, and even more deer killed that fall.
“The use of a light at night is a violation of fair chase, because of the effect on deer, it causes them to literally freeze in their tracks,” said game commission spokesman Jerry Feaser. “Anytime you’re hunting at night, there is also the safety factor, because you’re unable to see anyone else in the area.”
Game Commission wildlife conservation officer Eric Seth, based in Centre County, was able to investigate the case based on a tip from the toll-free Turn-In-a-Poacher, or TIP-line. The tip was that these people were driving around, spotting deer, then shooting them from a vehicle.
