Anthony Vines, convicted in March of first-degree rape in Lee County Circuit Court, was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Thursday, prosecutors said.
Vines, 43, was found guilty after 24 minutes of deliberations on March 31. He faced 10 years to life in prison. Assistant District Attorney Kisha Abercrombie said she asked Judge John Denson II for life imprisonment, though she said the sentence given was appropriate.
Jurors found Vines guilty of raping a 90-year-old woman in her Opelika, Ala., home on Nov. 9, 2008. The trial was Vines’ second. He faced a jury on a rape charge in October. That ended in a mistrial, court records state.
