EL PASO, Texas -- U.S. government lawyers trapped Luis Posada Carriles into lying under oath so they could bring criminal charges against the anti-Castro militant, his defense alleged Tuesday.
Federal Judge Kathleen Cardone, meanwhile, warned that the jury `is not getting any happier'' after yet another court session was cut short by procedural questions over the prosecution's evidence.
``You guys are going to alienate the jury if we keep doing four-hour days,'' said Cardone, who noted that she had earlier told the jurors the trial would last about six weeks.
Defense attorney Felipe Millan, cross-examining a Department of Homeland Security attorney about her interviews with Posada when he requested U.S. asylum in 2005, contended repeatedly that the charges against Posada stem from government entrapment.
Posada's sworn answers in his interviews with DHS lawyer Gina Garrett-Jackson and U.S. immigration officials form the basis of the 11 charges he now faces.
