By order of authorities, Biscayne Bay's "piano bar" will soon be closing after a short and spectacular run from teenage stunt to worldwide sensation.
An officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission showed up Thursday at the Miami Shores home of Nicholas Harrington, the 16-year-old high school student whose inspiration to shoot a really cool video for a college application was the impetus for hauling the hefty instrument onto a small sand bar in the northern bay.
The message from the state was simple: We won't slap you with a ticket — but only if you remove it within 24 hours.
Dumping something so big in the bay is technically a felony, said FWC Officer Jorge Pino, but the agency was willing to cut Harrington and his family some slack.
"The intent of these kids was certainly not to go out there and litter per se," Pino said. "It was to create some sort of an art project."
