Thieves looking to cash in on the rising value of cooper are targeting irrigation circles, metal scrap piles and farm implements in rural Grant County, Washington, sheriff’s officials said.
In four months, deputies have investigated 25 wire theft cases, and Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones issued a warning today to residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Anyone spotting thieves should immediately call 911 and provide a description of the suspects, vehicle and license plate number, Jones said.
The sheriff’s office is currently working with local scrap yards and recyclers to try to identify and arrest the thieves, Jones said.
