The copper that thieves stripped from the old F and H Ice Cream building may have netted them about $300 but did enough damage to have destroyed the business if it was still in operation.
Bob Harris, who retired from the ice cream business years ago, stood outside the stripped air-conditioning units at his Cusseta Road business and pointed to what he said was $20,000 worth of damage done over the weekend.
Only inches of copper tubing remained sticking out of three machines. Cut tubing stuck out of the back wall leading to a freezer that once held five truckloads of ice cream.
