A Parker County woman who was reported missing after her home burned to the ground this month was found alive in Corsicana on Saturday after being bound and repeatedly assaulted for almost two weeks, a Parker County official said Sunday.
Just minutes after she was found, Parker County authorities and Texas Rangers arrested a Corsicana man who had tried to date her, accusing him of kidnapping the 62-year-old woman at gunpoint, abusing her and keeping her hostage at his Corsicana home, where he had lived alone.
Authorities identified the suspect as Jeffrey Allan Maxwell, 58, who was in the Navarro County Jail, but there were plans to transfer him to the Parker County Jail in Weatherford late Sunday.
"She had been kept in restraints all this time in that house," said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler. "This is a horrendous case."
The Parker County woman suffered a black eye and bruises to her neck, wrists and ankles. She was taken Saturday to a Corsicana hospital, where she was treated and released a few hours later. She has been returned to an undisclosed location in Parker County under protective custody.
Maxwell is accused of kidnapping the victim March 1, driving to her home near Whitt in northwest Parker County and forcing her into his vehicle at gunpoint.
