EAST ST. LOUIS -- Thanks to the quick response of the East St. Louis patrol division, a 44-year-old East St. Louis man is in jail facing theft charges after he was caught on the rooftop of a cleaners allegedly stealing copper early Saturday morning.
George Lee Brown, 44, of the 2200 block of Bond Avenue, was charged with theft Saturday by the St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office, Detective Marion Riddle confirmed.
Riddle said the patrol units arrived at New York Cleaners three minutes after the Police Department received a call reporting a man on the roof of the building, which is located at 2200 Bond Ave.
"We received the call at 2:31 a.m. A neighbor observed the suspect on the rooftop. The quick response of the officers enabled them to catch the suspect in action on the rooftop of the building," Riddle said.
The suspect, who lives down the street from the business, was ordered down and arrested.
