BELLINGHAM - Yet another bronze plaque has been stolen from public property, this time from the façade of the Federal Building downtown.
A maintenance worker for the building, 104 W. Magnolia St., noticed the plaque was missing Monday, Aug. 22, and employees reported it to the Bellingham Police Tuesday, police spokesman Mark Young said.
The plaque had been located on the entrance side of the building and was in recognition that the building was on the National Register of Historic Places.
This is the most recent in a string of bronze thefts that have been focused on Bellingham parks. The thieves likely are recycling the bronze for cash as the metal increases in value, Young said.
