An argument over groceries is getting the blame for an altercation Sunday in Gastonia, N.C. in which a man says a woman beat him with her prosthetic leg -- and tore out her dialysis tube when she got out of her wheelchair during the dispute.
No charges have been filed so far in the case, which happened about 11:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Lakeview Street, police say.
The man identified as the victim, 29-year-old Charles Maurice Talbert, told police the altercation was the result of an argument over groceries that had lasted two days.
Talbert said the woman, who was not identified, became violent and punched him in the face and chest. Then, Talbert said, the woman took off her leg and continued hitting him. Talbert said his glasses and a cell phone were damaged in the attack, and he estimated the damage at $300, according to the police report.
Talbert told police the woman was hurt by bystanders when they pulled her away from him.
According to police, the woman said Talbert had been bothering her for two days about the groceries, and when she went to his home, she said he punched her. The woman told police that during the dispute, her dialysis tube was pulled from her neck.
Police say the woman was taken to the hospital in Gastonia for treatment.
