Former FBI Director Louis J. Freeh was “seriously” injured in a car accident while driving in Vermont, the Associated Press is reporting.
According to the AP report, “State police said Freeh was taken by helicopter to a New Hampshire hospital following the crash Monday in Barnard, a small town about 90 miles northwest of Boston.”
Freeh, 64, apparently drove his SUV off the road shortly after noon and struck a mailbox and a row of shrubs before coming to a stop on the side of a tree, state police said. He was wearing his seatbelt, the AP reported.
Freeh served as FBI director from 1993 through June 2001, following earlier service as a special agent, federal prosecutor and federal judge.
