The Duke University board of trustees approved a resolution today banning Duke from making direct investments in companies that do business with the government of Sudan.The board's action, made in protest to the Sudan government's human-rights violation in the Darfur region, followed the recommendation of Duke President Richard H. Brodhead and an advisory committee, the university said in a statement.
Duke has no "direct investments in companies working with the government of Sudan," the statement said.
The move marks the first time Duke has invoked its investment responsibility policy, established in 2004.
