PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Former President Bill Clinton was midway through his hour-long speech at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center to tout his wife's presidential candidacy when he spotted a group of people holding signs — something security guards had made an attempt to prevent.
The president stopped, chuckled and pointed to a big burly man in the back. The man held his neatly painted sign a little higher: "I'm for the woman."
Several in the crowd of more than 3,000 — including construction workers, steelworkers and coal miners still in their uniforms — said they will do something in this election they never thought they would: vote for a woman.
