SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Federal agents are in Sacramento investigating Kevin Johnson's St. HOPE organization over its use of federal grant money and the former NBA star's alleged misconduct toward two teens in its signature Hood Corps program, according to Dan Maguire, an attorney for the Governor's Office.
Maguire, whose office manages California's federal AmeriCorps programs, said Friday that the probe was launched April 17 after The Bee raised questions about Hood Corps, an urban volunteer program modeled on the Peace Corps.
Those questions covered a range of topics: the residential program's religious and physical aspects, whether the volunteers' duties reflected the funding contract, and sexual allegations related to a Sacramento High School student and a teenage volunteer.
