Miami surgeons spent at least 12 hours on Tuesday removing a massive, life-threatening tumor from the face of a tiny 15-year-old Vietnamese girl.
Surgeons at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital began removing a massive Schwannoma tumor that has consumed the lower half of Lai Thi Dho's face Tuesday morning and completed the operation last night, said hospital spokesman Omar Montejo.
The tumor is a benign growth that began with a small lump the size of a black bean in Lai's tongue but swelled over the years to roughly one-third her body weight.
