Next year, everything about television will change. Odds are, though, you won't have to do anything to get ready.
On Feb. 17, 2009, the major TV networks will stop broadcasting on the analog frequencies they have owned since World War II. Instead, each network will get four digital frequencies, allowing them to broadcast more shows and a clearer picture.
If you have cable or satellite TV, you won't have to do anything. If you have an older television set with an antenna that gets the signal over the air, you will need a converter box.
U.S. Rep. John Shimkus of Collinsville and Brian Danza of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration were in Maryville on Monday to let the public know about the impending changes like these.
