The talk may be about the November presidential election, but today's the day that the ballot will be set for most of the political contests to be held in the fall in Kansas and Missouri.
Election officials in both states are predicting a low turnout overall, but that doesn't mean certain races won't bring big crowds to the polls. Polls close at 7 p.m. Central time in both states. These are the races to watch.
Missouri governor
Four Republican candidates, led by state Treasurer Sarah Steelman and U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, face off to see who will take on Attorney General Jay Nixon, the likely winner in the Democratic primary.
Missouri attorney general
Four Democrats, including former Cass County Prosecutor Chris Koster, are in a hot battle to see who will face Republican Mike Gibbons in the fall.
Johnson County, Kan., district attorney
Steve Howe hopes to unseat Phill Kline in the hard-fought Republican primary. The winner faces Democrat Rick Guinn in November.
Johnson County sales tax
The quarter-cent tax renewal would fund public safety improvements.
