South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's office begins today considering whether to issue evacuation orders for coastal communities as Tropical Storm Hanna lurks over the Bahamas and creeps toward the U.S.
The storm is expected to begin affecting South Carolina on Friday unless it changes direction or speed.
The U.S. Census Bureau says almost 50,000 people have moved to the Grand Strand and Brunswick County, N.C., since the last major storm - Hurricane Charley in 2004 - and many have never experienced a hurricane.
But officials say that's no problem. The message is the same for all: Get ready now. Don't wait until the rain starts to fall.
