Alternative energy sources are critical to helping South Carolina and the country meet future demand and maintain independence - and tax credits Congress passed last week are the types of steps to help, experts said Wednesday.
But they're not enough, and more energy from traditional sources is still needed, the experts said at a forum on alternative energy at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
"The more we get renewable energy, the more we're going to be in a better position to compete with the rest of the country and the rest of the world," said John Clark, the director of the S.C. Energy Office, which is under the state Budget and Control Board, citing the millions of jobs that could be created by investing in other energy sources, such as wood waste, agricultural products and landfill gas.
