The trip began and ended at church, just like always. But Wednesday morning's hearse ride from Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church took a most unusual route.
Police say Johnny Silfrain, 18, went joyriding in a hearse he stole from outside the Carver Ranches church -- while a funeral was taking place.
By the time his wild journey ended, he had a bullet hole in his leg, courtesy of a Broward sheriff's deputy he nearly ran over, authorities said.
''This is obviously a first for me,'' said Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti. ``We've had hearses stolen before, but not in the middle of the service.''
