President-elect Barack Obama is promising an economic stimulus package that could rival what was spent to build the interstates during the Dwight Eisenhower era. Whether Obama’s plan changes transportation the same way is a different matter.
But states and cities already are lining up projects they can launch swiftly to light a fire under the economy and preserve or create jobs.
Missouri has 34 transportation projects worth $510 million on its ready-to-do list, while Kansas has 18 worth $655 million.
But few, either here or across the country, will vastly change the way we get around.
