FRANKFORT — State Rep. Mike Cherry, whose Western Kentucky legislative district was hard-hit by a winter ice storm last week, said he plans to file legislation in coming days that would allow schools to waive up to 10 make-up days.
Cherry, D-Princeton, said schools in the 92 counties which have declared a state of emergency would not have to reschedule up to 10 days that were missed because of the storm. The Kentucky Department of Education would also be allowed to give the 10-day waiver to school districts in neighboring counties that did not declare states of emergency.
State law requires schools to provide students with 177 instructional days.
