A nationwide shortage of the painkiller oxycodone is making it difficult for Whatcom County residents who need the most popular dosage of the drug to get their prescriptions filled.
Oxycodone is the generic name for a narcotic pain reliever that is derived from morphine and is perhaps best known by one of its brand names, OxyContin. The unusual shortage is affecting those who need the 5-milligram immediate release tablets of the generic, said local pharmacists and their representatives.
"There just isn't any," said Becky Skaggs, spokeswoman for Haggen Food & Pharmacy stores.
