A Cameron County woman with swine flu has died, the first death of a Texas resident who was infected, state health officials said Tuesday.
The woman had chronic health problems before she was infected, state officials said. No other details about her were released. Cameron County is in South Texas on the border with Mexico.
Statewide, the Department of State Health Services is reporting 61 confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in Texas. Sixty of them are Texas residents.
Also Tuesday, Springtown schools announced that they were closing after one "probable case of swine flu" was diagnosed. The district's six campuses will be cleaned.
The schools will reopen Monday, May 11, according to an announcement Tuesday on the district's Web site.
