BELLEVILLE, Ill. — Deer hunters never know what kind of hidden gems their trail cameras will capture on film. Take Wayne Huebner, for instance.
Huebner, a 1978 graduate of Belleville West High School, has four Cuddleback Expert high-speed trail cameras on the property he hunts in Phelps County, Mo. It’s his primary tool for monitoring the number and movement of deer on his property.
Last week, he thought he captured a breathtaking image of nature at its rawest. A hawk, swooping down from the sky, appeared milliseconds away from striking an unsuspecting Eastern wild turkey foraging for food on the ground.
Trail cameras are one of the biggest innovations in deer hunting in the past 30 years, and the month of July is prime time for hunters to situate their cameras, if they haven’t done so already.
