CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Joel Osteen may be America's most popular preacher since Billy Graham, especially during a recession in which many hunger for his upbeat assurances that God wants to reward their faith with financial well-being and other gifts.
On Friday, the televangelist brought his “Night of Hope” show to Charlotte's Time Warner Cable Arena. Accompanied onstage by wife and co-pastor Victoria, he treated more than 10,000 fans to a mix of inspirational stories, up-tempo praise music and promises that God can't wait to bring blessings like promotions, restored health and rejuvenated marriages to those who are struggling.
