Two charismatic cats from Thailand are adjusting to their new home at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma.
The nearly 9-month-old clouded leopards climbed and jumped Thursday afternoon while they explored their exhibit in the zoo’s Asia Day Room.
Chai Li, a female, and Nah Fun, a male, have the look of gangly teenagers, with a youthful energy and playfulness.
"They look at everything and everyone as something to climb on," said Andy Goldfarb, staff biologist and "cat guy."
Starting Monday, the clouded leopards will be available for intermittent public viewing, depending on how they react and adjust to their audience. They'll gradually work into full-time exposure, which could take more than a week, Goldfarb said.
"In the beginning, I'm being pretty protective," he said. "I don't want the cats to be terrified."
