Do you feel as if your head is full of tree pollen? Blame the burst of warm weather Kansas City is having.
The pollen count taken Monday at Children's Mercy Hospital reached 5,397 grains per cubic meter — the highest level ever recorded by the hospital.
"If you're allergic to tree pollen, you're miserable," said Jay Portnoy, an allergist at the hospital. "The count almost never gets above 1,000. Five thousand we’ve never seen."
People with allergies may want to ask their doctor about upping the doses of their medications, Portnoy said.
“It may be no medication will do the job,” he said. “You may have to stay indoors.”
Global warming is causing pollen counts to trend higher, many researchers say.
