Raptor fever ran hot Saturday at Gunsight Pass off the Glenn Highway.
A flock of avian aficionados -- binoculars and spotting scopes at the ready -- gathered at Mile 118.5 of the Glenn for Anchorage Audubon's Hawk Watch Weekend. And the raptors, including about 120 Harlan's Hawks, cooperated. But that, it turned out, was just the appetizer.
"Sunday was the day," said Anchorage Audubon president and local entertainer Mr. Whitekeys. "Man, it was just incredible. They didn't fly until late in the day. But they got this tailwind and came screaming through -- about 350 on Sunday afternoon.
"In one period there were 62 in 15 minutes. It was incredible."
