GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, Cuba -- The Pentagon downsized its detention center census to 181 on Tuesday, announcing it had sent a Yemeni captive to Spain for resettlement and another man to the custody of the Bulgarian government.
The announcement of the transfer, undertaken early Monday, did not disclose the identities of the two men, citing ``security and privacy reasons at the request of the governments of Bulgaria and Spain.''
It was also not immediately known whether either of the men was among the captives whom federal judges have ordered set free.
In Madrid, El País newspaper identified the captive that arrived there early Tuesday as a Yemeni. It noted that he was the second man from Guantanamo whom Madrid agreed to resettle because he was facing no criminal charges either at this remote U.S. Navy base, in Europe or in his homeland.
This was also the first known Guantanamo transfer to Bulgaria.
