In Georgia, a llama shows up for a bible reading

Ed Grisamore - Macon Telegraph

May 05, 2010 03:19 PM

Kemper Meadows stood on the steps of the Bleckley County Courthouse and read aloud from the Old Testament in her King James Bible.

She was somewhere in the first chapter of the Book of Joshua late Saturday afternoon.

And that's when a llama named Tootsie showed up.

"I thought, I just can't be reading God's word and not stop to say hello to one of his creatures," Kemper said.

So she put all those verses on hold about Jericho and the tribes of Israel.

Tootsie walked right up to her.

“I leaned over and gave her a little smooch,” said Kemper. “But I didn’t really kiss her.”

In case you’re wondering, Tootsie had not wandered over from Noah’s Ark. That Bible story had already been covered earlier by one of the town’s other Bible marathon readers.

There was no flash flood, either. Tootsie made her public appearance two days before Monday’s heavy thunderstorms soaked Cochran.

Kemper should not have been too surprised to get a visit from Tootsie, who is somewhat of a “llama about town” and a regular participant in parades and other festivities.

Tootsie doesn’t profess to be either Baptist or Methodist. She is strictly a nondenominational animal.
