"Time Travel Weekends," the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation's new summertime street-theater series gets under way Saturday. And it's free.
Costumed performers will be in Old Sacramento from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekend through Aug. 29, portraying life as it was during the city's giddy, post-Gold Rush era.
There will be the usual heroes and villains, gamblers and damsels in distress, along with Pony Express riders, musicians, dancers, jugglers and soldiers. The New Golden Melodeon Revue will have actors portraying real-life characters Lotta Crabtree, Lydia Thompson, Lola Montez and Sam Brannan.
"Time Travel Weekends" is presented in partnership with the City of Sacramento, California State Parks and the Old Sacramento Business Association.
