CalPERS has poured another $500 million into green energy.
The big pension fund announced Wednesday it has set up a fund to invest in a broad portfolio of publicly held green-energy companies. CalPERS' governing board approved the investment in closed session last February, and the money has been invested, said spokesman Clark McKinley.
He said the investment is in addition to $2 billion of green investments undertaken since 2006 by the California Public Employees' Retirement System.
