The ambitious 150-square-block Green Impact Zone in the heart of Kansas City may soon face a new budget reality in Washington.
Plans for a multimillion-dollar “climate sustainability center” in the zone are probably on life support, acknowledged U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, a Democrat who will soon be in the minority in the House.
And it is possible, Cleaver said, that the new Republican House majority will attempt to claw back some of the estimated $40 million in federal money already awarded to the zone but still unspent.
