Rowing competition planned for Florida lake that attracts over 50 bird species

At least 50 species of birds can be found at Sarasota's Nathan Benderson Park, which is being refashioned to attract world-class competitive rowing events.

Wildlife experts are concerned that the development will displace at least some of the birds.

But officials say they plan to take precautions to protect delicate nesting and feeding areas at the park, which has already attracted six college teams that will be practicing in Sarasota and Manatee counties from Dec. 29 to March 12.
